Requirements to be a Certified Electrical Inspector

Goal:
Upon completion of this course, the Inspector will know how to inspect a residential electrical panel, including identifying common electrical violations, defects and concerns.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, the inspector shall be able to inspect an electrical panel, including identifying common electrical violations, defects and concerns. Follow the instructors as they perform inspections at mock-up panels and components in the studio and on-location at two residential properties.

The Inspector will learn the following topics:

  ⦿   Double-taps and over-fusing;
  ⦿   Sizing the A/C breaker;
  ⦿   Multi-wire branch circuits;
  ⦿   Aluminum wires;
  ⦿   Electric dryers and appliances;
  ⦿   Service conductors;
  ⦿   Grounding rods, GECs, and water pipes;
  ⦿   Electrical inspection devices and tools;
  ⦿   Infrared on breakers;
  ⦿   Federal Pacific and Zinsco;
  ⦿   GFCI and AFCI breakers and receptacles;
  ⦿   Proper procedures for testing devices;
  ⦿   Electrical violations; and
  ⦿   Disconnects for detached structures.
